Pocketful of Poetry Launch

On Wednesday Mindy Gledhill threw her launch concert for her new album, Pocketful of Poetry.
Mindy is a Provo native. I fell in love with her music through church music, and followed her as she started releasing her other albums.
Provo has an awesome music scene and it's one thing I really actually like about Provo. I mean, Neon Trees, Fictionist, and a little band you might have heard of called Imagine Dragons? They all got their start here. I'm really proud to live in a city with a lot of support for the local music scene.
Mindy is just so adorable. I mean, she walked out on stage wearing a sequin green tutu dress. She's sweet and quirky and her songwriting is simple but relate-able. Her songs are so catchy you will just magically one day start singing along with them and realize you know all the words. She really cares about her work and what she produces, and I for one am thankful for that.

The show was at Velour, which is a beautiful, homey venue. Petite Treats provided cake bites which were DELICIOUS.
Mindy's opening act was Book on Tapeworm, who I had heard of before but never seen.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Usually I couldn't care less about opening acts, but they were really phenomenal. Check them out.
I can't even begin to tell you how in love I was with this show.
Mindy sounded so good and interacted with us. It wasn't about her, it was about making the audience come away from the show feeling inspired. And it worked.
She mostly played songs from her new album which is a collection of stories and memories. All about growing up. You can find it on her website or stream it on Spotify.
But she also played a lot of fan favorites. Here's a clip of one of mine:

I wanna hold the whole wide world right here in my open hands.
Maybe I'm just a little girl, a little girl with great big plans.
It was a really great show and I feel very blessed to have been able to go.

chalk the block

I'm not totally a hermit!
This weekend the Shops at the Riverwoods hosted "Chalk the Block."
Each store has an artist and they create a piece of art with chalk as their medium.
Some of them were silly, some were meaningful, and some were just worth swooning over. (Helloooooooo, giant Benedict Cumberbatch.)
There was a live band, food carts, and all that jazz. It really is quite a quaint little outdoor mall.
I would have snapped some more pictures, but these married delinquents couldn't stay still enough!
So we just left it up to the photobooth.
And let me tell you, it's hard to fit four people in a photobooth.
If you're ever in Provo, go to Pacific Beach Resort in the Riverwoods. They have a little ice cream parlor that apparently is amazing. Steven was in heaven.
My poor little lactose-free stomach was sad I missed out.

Over the weekend...

remember these guys? yeah, they're pretty fan-freaking-tastic.

we:
went to a baseball game.
had a bonfire(ish).
played chubby bunny.
stayed up entirely too late.
(I) watched star wars for the first time IN MY LIFE.
played a spy game and karoline lied to me successfully for the first time ever.

fun fact: i actually hate s'mores.
the champion. i think she ended up with 6.

five? this picture is so attractive...

so is this one... and i only got four
conner just had his wisdom teeth out so he couldn't play.

karoline and i are glad we actually have friends. not so sure they feel the same but they're stuck with us now!

peace out freshman year: part 1, the overview

first of all, you should be aware that i am writing this in karoline's parents' house. without karoline here. also that i slept until 1 this afternoon. haters gon' hate.

anyway, i am going to be posting a (so far) 4-part "peace out freshman year" series. because my freshman year is over. in case you didn't gather that by the title. okay. i'm in a really weird mood. moving on...

this one is just a little overview of my last week here.

i should inform you that i am not a very sentimental person. very rare and special occasions will warrant me feeling the emotion of "bittersweet." i usually just feel the sweet side. but i will say that i was a little sad watching everyone pack up their stuff and drive away this week. however, that could have just been brought on by jealousy considering i am insane and decided to stay spring term. merp. but i just realized that my freshman year is over. and no matter if i got along with people or even knew them that well, they were a part of this year. it just went by really fast and it's sort of a blur and it's hard to think that i'm done and never getting this year back. wow there were a lot of "and"s in that sentence. my bad. so i wanted to make the most of my last week.

which leads us to the night i had the most awkward photos of my life taken of me. i hiked up the y with some kids in my ward on monday night. lucky for you i have a low embarrassment threshold so i'll share the pictures with you.

and last, but my favorite:

i am just obviously so HAWT. and yes that is a 90s workout suit. there is a reason this blog is titled "awkward troll adventures"...

it was a good time though. we laid upside down on the y (scariest thing ever) and had an N*SYNC dance party. good times.

shoutout to Jake for holding my foot because i was going to die.

i promise the rest of the posts won't be as ridiculously long as this one. but there you have it. coming soon: "the finals death scare." dun dun dun...

(i like to use these.)

I have so much to catch up on here it's ridiculous. Be expecting posts about things that happened a month ago. Moving on!
This weekend was largely devoted to one of my best friends, Matthew. He was down in Provo for his brother's wedding to visit me before he leaves for his mission. So we rode our bikes around (I got a bike!), hit up denny's, attended one of my test reviews, and went up to the Temple.

I should probably take this time to point out that Matt and I used to absolutely hate each other. Our brothers were best friends growing up and from the ages of 5-10 they consistently teased us about getting married (some things never change). We were still in our cootie stage (who am I kidding? I still am.), so you can imagine the brooding anger that arose in our pre-pubescent hearts. Anyway, we didn't really see each other often until around ninth grade. We were in the same friend group but abhorred each other. And neither of us had any qualms about hiding it. But somewhere along the line we started hating each other less. We did theatre together and I started hanging out with a different friend group that he soon joined. One time he told his mom we were hanging out and she was apparently really surprised, because we really were always so rude to each other. But now, he is one of my best friends!
He leaves in a few weeks for Brazil, and I'll probably write him (worst commitment award goes to me). But I am going to miss him and I know he'll be an amazing missionary!

here's to many more memories when you get home!*

*i would like to make it known now that despite what you say i will not, in fact, be married when this happens.

Reasons I hate today.

If you thought you were reading the blog of an optimist, you were sorely mistaken.

1. singing outside in 35 degree weather for twenty minutes.
2. cleaning checks.
3. psychology papers.
4. having lost $30 and now not being able to buy things i planned on getting.
good riddance, tuesday.

Mom Skirt Sunday!

Melanie and I decided to rock our mom-skirts today. Melanie totally wins, though. Hers has frogs on it.

about time...

today we got some of that magical white stuff.
it started about 2.

Melanie and I attended pancake party downstairs and then ventured out into the freezing cold to document our snow adventures:

nope. we don't know whose moped that is. rebels!
left: it's not fun when snow flies directly into your eye. right: tarzan.
fun fact: more people die per year from vending machines falling on them than by shark attacks. uplifting, right?
